Passion That Kills!
This week, I read another familiar story in Colombian news. Two rival soccer teams faced off, each determined to win. The game was close, the tension lasted until the last minute, and finally, one group emerged victorious…
…And then comes the rest of the story. Fans, filled with passion for their team’s cause, break out in violence. The loosing side is angry, the winning side is prideful and arrogant. Both are zealous.
As people leave the stadium, if one is seen wearing anything resembling the other team’s colors, their life is in danger. Rocks are cast, punches thrown, weapons are drawn and harsh words echo the streets surrounding the area. Riot police are called in and chaos breaks out. People die. People are hurt. Why? Because of passion.
This is exactly what happened on Sunday in Medellín Colombia. They ended up arresting over 350 people and confiscating 450 weapons. They really were prepared to break out in violence and passionate enough to kill! You can read the story here.
You know, we might read something like that and think, “My oh my, why are people so dumb about a silly game?!” But, if we would be honest with ourselves, we’d find that we are just as passionate sometimes. Our passion simply takes a different form–hunting, fishing, golf, football, shopping, video games, movies, technology, friends, etc… The list could go on and on.
In the Bible, Paul often spoke of passion, sometimes referred to as zeal. You know, he was a pretty passionate guy himself. Check out what he said in Philippians 3:
“Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more: Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee; Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.”
Philippians 3:4-6
He was the pick of the litter when it came to religion. He had all the right training, the right family, the right positions, the right everything… He was the at the top and he knew it. He was so passionate about his religion that he was willing to kill people for it! That’s why he persecuted the church! Zeal. A passion for the cause.
But then looks at what he says in the very next verses:
“But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;”
Philippians 3:7-10
Did you catch that? He said it was a loss to him! Paul came to the place where he realized that the things he was so passionate about were not drawing him close to God. In fact, they were unprofitable to him and Christ’s cause! He laid it aside in order to win Christ.
You know, we need some Christians that would be willing to do that. We get so tied up in this world and all of its many pleasures and pastimes that we are loosing Christ. It should be the other way around! Let us, the Children of God, determine to be passionate about HIM! More than anything else, HE will be my zeal. HE will be the driving force of energy that keeps me going each day. HE will be my goal, my prize, my life! HE will be my everything!
We might think the Colombian soccer fans may seem a little overzealous in their cause. When is the last time somebody accused you of being overzealous for Christ? They had a passion willing to kill another person. Let us get a passion for the Lord that would be willing to kill our own will and die to self. That’s the right passion. That’s the right zeal.
Die to self. Live unto Him.
Lets get ahold of a passion that kills.

January 2012
Dear Pastors, Friends and Family,
Deputation & Family Update
We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! The past couple months have been a whirlwind of traveling, preaching, sharing our burden for Colombia and seeing God do miracles. We’ve seen people saved through personal soul winning and in church services, and we’ve seen major financial needs met by God’s mighty providence. He is GOOD!
We’ve now traveled a total of over 31,000 miles and have gained several new supporters recently, even three this past week! Praise God. If you haven’t joined our team of financial partners we’d love to be your missionaries to Colombia! Millions have still never heard. Will you help us get there? By the way, if you haven’t seen our ministry video yet, check it out on our website: www.bemagnified.org or contact me and I can mail you a DVD copy.
We had asked prayer for Hells Gates, a program our home church did during October. It was incredible! 3,500 people walked through a reality drama of the end times, and over 400 came to know Christ as their Savior! We also participated in two conferences that promote missions in which many gave their lives for full time Christian service. I love this stuff!
Our pregnancy is going well, and the doctor just informed us last week that we’re having another GIRL! I’m quickly being outnumbered, but we thank Christ for entrusting us with another little child to raise.
Out Of The Mouth Of Babes
Amira, who is now 21 months old, absolutely loves to sing. She gets a couple of things mixed up but it sure is cute! We frequently hear her joyfully sing: “I.B.I.B.I.B…book and me… BIBLE!” or, another favorite: “Jesus loves me, little star, how I wonder, up above Jesus.”☺

1. Aubrie’s pregnancy – Baby girl due on May 24th
2. That we would be a blessing to churches as we travel & present our ministry
3. The 44,000,000 Colombian people who have never heard the Gospel!
4. Financial Support (now at about 20%)
Thank you for your continued prayers and support. We love you and pray for you often.

October 2011
Dear Friends and Family,
Deputation & Family Update
We’ve been on deputation for 6 months now with quite a full schedule, traveling over 23,000 miles, preaching and presenting our burden and plan for Colombia in many churches. Pray that we can raise our needed support quickly so we can get to the field. Each day has been a step of faith, and God has proven himself more than faithful in providing for our needs. Many times we don’t know how we are going to pay for certain bills and expenses, but the Lord provides just the needed amount right on time! He’s a good God!
There are two events I want you to know about: Hell’s Gates, a reality outdoor drama depicting the end times, taking place every weekend in October (hellsgates.com). This is hosted by our home church. The other event is the Our Generation Summit in Pigeon Forge, TN during December 29-31 (bcwe.org). Plan to come and bring your church group!
We are also pleased to announce… our Vance trio is about to become a quartet! We’re excited to be expecting our second child, sometime around the end of May. Pray especially for my wife. Those of you that have ever had children know that the first trimester can get a little queasy, and we’ve got a lot of traveling planned over the next few months.
There is so much more I want to tell you about. If you get a chance, head over to our blog (bemagnified.org) to read more about what’s going on in our lives, and to see our new ministry video. I think you’ll enjoy it!
Out Of The Mouth Of Babes
Speaking of our next child, last week, we asked Amira where the new baby is, and she pointed to Aubrie’s tummy and said “Baby!!” She’s so smart! Well, then she pointed at my tummy and said the same. (I wonder what she means by that?) ☺

I want you to be praying about two things specifically for Colombia. First, local elections are now taking place. Many candidates have been assassinated in regions where there is conflict with the rebel groups. Also, last month the rainy season started. They are expecting it to be worse than last year (2.2 million were left homeless and 301 people died last year because of the rains). Most of these people have never heard the Gospel.
Prayer Requests
1. For Aubrie’s pregnancy that things go well without complications
2. For our travels as we present our ministry in many churches
3. For our financial support to continue to increase (now at 14%)
4. For more laborers to take the Gospel to Colombia
For Christ and His Glory,
Aaron, Aubrie, Amira (& Baby) Vance

May God bless! Thank you for following us on our journey to Colombia.
Colombian Drug Submarine Seized
Check out this video of Colombian police seizing a huge submarine meant to smuggle up to 5 10 tons of cocaine at a time.
Please pray for Colombia. Not all Colombians are part of rebel paramilitary groups. They aren’t all druglords. They aren’t all crackheads. But, just like every human being, all Colombians need Christ!
